Hello
Yuxi Chen
📍New York
Columbia University
Professional Background
Yuxi has spent nearly a decade deeply engaged in North American secondary education, with particular strength in mathematics and STEM teaching at both the middle and high school levels. While teaching at several public high schools in New Jersey, she founded school math clubs and competition teams, mentoring students to participate in a range of regional and national math competitions, including the AMC and ARML, and helping them achieve record-setting results in school history.
During her doctoral studies in Mathematics Education at Columbia University, Yuxi served as a teaching assistant and research assistant for multiple mathematics and education courses. She published research findings in academic journals and delivered talks at several mathematics education conferences. While at Columbia, she was also committed to promoting STEM awareness among young students, serving as an instructor and organizer for Sonia Kovalevsky Day hosted by Columbia’s Mathematics Department, with the goal of encouraging greater female participation in mathematics and science-related fields.
After graduating from Columbia, Yuxi continued to devote herself fully to high school teaching while also serving as a mathematics lecturer at the City University of New York. Through her work with both high school and undergraduate students, she became acutely aware of the strong demand today’s students face in college admissions and long-term academic and career planning. She therefore decided to focus on college admissions advising, aspiring not only to guide students in mathematics and other STEM applications, but also to serve as a mentor who helps them navigate pathways toward STEM-related careers.
Personal Strengths
Yuxi excels at building sincere, trusting relationships with students from diverse backgrounds and with a wide range of personalities. She has distinctive insights into academic planning for students pursuing STEM fields. She enjoys integrating mathematical thinking into student advising, encouraging students and parents to see how mathematics can be applied concretely to solving real-world social problems. She also motivates students to take initiative and create their own projects, helping them align with the underlying logic and values of college admissions. Yuxi’s deep grounding in mathematics, combined with her understanding of its applications in the humanities and social sciences, enables her to present each student as a complete and independent individual, craft strong interdisciplinary narratives, and help students stand out in the college application process.
